Duties include 2nd-tier support and troubleshooting of internal helpdesk calls, system maintenance and tuning, software and hardware installations and upgrades, participation in various VMS-related projects, and training of users and support personnel in a team-oriented environment under limited supervision.

Additional contributions include programming of custom utilities, extensive system documentation, participation in production contingency plans and tests, disk migration projects, and highly active participation in the SEPS-97 project, which involved rapid upgrades of OpenVMS and layered products on dozens of production clusters.

Employed as a Programmer / Analyst II, with the following responsibilities: system management of VMS VAXClusters and standalone systems, DSM system management and database administration of all MUMPS-based application environments, maintenance and installation of VAX hardware and associated peripherals, documentation of technical support and system management procedures. Because of familiarity with VMS programming environment, also act as primary technical contact for internal VMS programming groups. Manage and participate in infrastructure projects relating to system installations and upgrades, application implementations, software enhancements, etc.

Redesigned and implemented complex backup process for the DSM applications to allow 24-hour availability. Previous backup implementation was poorly written and bug-ridden. Also created extensive documentation of the backup process for operations and technical support staff.

Performed project management of DSM and VMS upgrade projects. Also participated in project as primary DSM technical resource.

Created numerous C and DCL utilities to assist technical support staff, as well as users, and to help automate system tasks. This has also resulted in less off-hours page calls.

Originally employed as a Software Control Analyst, with senior-level responsibility of VMS system security of a 6000-user VAXCluster, application-level security of the Medical Records, Appointment Scheduling, Radiology, and EKG systems, production control of DCL command procedures using CMS, production job scheduling using Target->Batch, and manual scheduling of various operator tasks. Coordinate resolutions of production issues among various support groups. Primary contact for all clinical security and scheduling issues.

Brought the production schedule from approximately 40% automation to nearly 100% automation by utilizing advanced scheduling techniques, and creation of numerous C and DCL utilities.

Created an on-line security request system, written in VAX C, to help automate complex application security issues and allow for mulitple sign-off levels. System has saved time and paper costs for over 1,000 security requests per month.

Created extensive documentation on the production environment, scheduling, and security procedures.

Promoted from Software Control Analyst II to Software Control Specialist III in May, 1995. New responsibilities included training, overseeing, and acting as second-tier support for other members of the group, as well as to manage and participate in various infrastructure projects involving system security enhancements, application implementations and upgrades, and hardware installations and upgrades. Duties also required 24-hour on-call responsibilities.

Employed as a Computer Operations Coordinator with the following responsibilities: operation and monitoring of a VAXCluster and standlone VAX systems and peripherals, system backup, reboots, power-downs, maintenance of user authorization files, organization of tape library, maintenance of printers, training of operations staff, and maintenance of procedures manual. Worked at a remote site with no supervision.

Took the initiative to learn system management responsibilities in spare time, allowing the system manager to spend time at other data centers.

Developed DCL command procedures to automate most recurring operator tasks. Also developed a number of application software packages in VAXC, including a full-screen interface to VMS mail. Submitted several of these packages to DECUS.

Installed and configured SLS to perform unattended system backups and various routine archival jobs.

Promited to Computer Operations Coordinator in 1990. Worked previously as a Computer Operator with responsibilities of console operation and monitoring of an Amdahl 5890 and an IBM 3081, both running MVS. Also provided user support at the help desk.

Write TSO CLISTs to automate many departmental functions. Also set up a departmental procedure library system on a PC, which included the development of a custom procedure library program, written in Turbo C.
